The things I need to do aren't getting done and the things I shouldn't be doing are making their way to the top of the list. Oh well.
We went on vacation this week to North Topsail Beach, NC. It was gorgeous. We had perfect weather all 5 days. The dog got worms, either from the water or one of the million other dogs we had encounters with. :( Poor thing. She'll be better in a few days though.
We went to this "Serpentarium" in Wilmington and we are able to get just a few inches away from the top 10 deadliest snakes in the world. The black mamba was following my finger through the glass, tons of different kinds of cobras and mambas, 3 20+ foot boas, 4 Nile crocodiles and more. The coolest part about it was watching the King Cobra. At one point he decided to try and attack us, he reared up, spread his hood (very impressive and super scary) and lunged forward at the glass, nearly hitting it before he realized it was there. All the snakes were shedding so they were much more agitated and active that normal and probably really hungry since no one will feed them while they are moody (can't say I blame them.)
The owner of the place is one of a handful of people in the world to survive a bite from a Bushmaster. He went into great detail about what it felt like. The incredible, blinding pain, explosive diarrhea and vomiting at the same time, blindness, convulsions, hallucinations, etc. They administered 15 vials of anti-venom and days and days of heavy antibiotics before he recovered. He went on to be bitten by two more of the deadliest snakes, but not as badly. Could you even imagine?
The same day we went to a brewery and a winery like the drunkards we are. The rest of the vacation was spent relaxing on the beach, playing in the surf and eating fresh seafood. I can't wait to do it again.
Next big trip: Jamaica for my sister's wedding in November.
